Welcome to DEAFdefiance, a site where I hope to help people who are dealing with hearing loss personally, of a loved one, or a friend. Let me start by sharing why I chose this name for my website. The last 2 1/2 years of my life have been quite a journey. I woke up one Saturday morning unable to hear out of my “good ear” (I’ll be sharing more about the progression of my hearing loss in another post). Many steps along this journey have required me to be boldly disobedient to advice I was given and openly resistant to “doing well” with hearing aids, thus…DEAFdefiance. After finding out I’m a candidate for cochlear transplant surgery, I have an appointment next month (February) to have my pre-surgical work up and hopefully be scheduled for surgery. Through this site I will be sharing my journey, sharing education about hearing loss, hearing aids, cochlear implants, the impact of hearing personally, and many resources available. I invite everyone to share my passion – let’s be defiant in merely accepting hearing loss and push forward toward absolutely everything that is possible!
